Barkov finished last season with a 28 point increase in points from the previous season, 27 goals and 51 assists, his assist total was a career best. He kept his penalty minutes in Lady Byng territory with just 14. He was a finalist for the trophy for the first time in his career but was edged out by the Kings, Anze Kopitar. Barkov also finished a plus 9 on the season.
Alex was a rookie in the 2013-14 season. A native of Tampere, Finland. His father played hockey in the Swedish Elite League. It’s hard to believe he will be going into his sixth pro season and he will be just 23 years old. Barkov is a crazy good hockey player and he is getting better. He is a beast of a man standing at 6’3″ and weighing in at 220 pounds. Alek is an excellent play-maker and his tenacity on the puck is second to none. What is his ceiling as far as point production goes? There is a lot of variables to that question but the main one would be, his health and secondly, who are his line-mates going to be?
Barkov played mainly with Bjugstad and Dadonov at even strength. I expect Dadonov to fully rebound from a dismal season. I see Barkov taking yet another step forward in production. It wouldn’t surprise me to see him surpass 90 points.
